At Lanlas Holiday Cottages you will be surrounded by animals. This is a very rural part of West Wales and there are many livestock farms close by.

Our first pigs

Gertie and her piglings

We have a herd of rare-breed pigs, including a Middle White Boar, called Henson,  a Middle White sow, called Penny,  and a Tamworth Sow called Gertie. We have litters of piglets every few weeks. For the first few weeks of their lives the piglets live in the barn behind the holiday cottages and have access to a shady grass area. Once they are big enough we move them into our 8 acre woodland, above the farm, with their mother until they are weaned.

Occasionally the piglets are so small that they need a little bit of extra assistance from us - sometimes they even get to spend some time in front of our Rayburn. This is a picture of Chopsey (the larger piglet). Her mother stood on her and damaged her leg. Chopsey spent 3 weeks in our kitchen, with "Rodney the Runt", her little brother.

Our first pet lambs, Mint Sauce & Rosemary

We also have a few sheep and their lambs are usually born around the beginning of April. We often have to hand rear one or two lambs in our kitchen. This is a picture of Lewis, one of our ginger cats keeping our Welsh Mountain lamb, Gwanwen, warm in front of the Rayburn. Gwanwen is now a mum herself and had twins last year. She is due to have twins again in April 2008. Like all Welsh Mountain sheep she is badly behaved and wilful, and seems to have conveniently forgotten what an important part we played in her early life.

Stevie, Iolo & Puds
Teg and Daisy

We also have a few pets, whom you are very likely to meet during your stay at Lanlas Holiday Cottages. We have five dogs, Puddle (right in the picture), Stevie (left in the picture), Iolo (at the back), Teg, and our new addition, Daisy. Puddle and Stevie are rescue dogs. Puds is very friendly and enjoys having sticks and balls thrown for her. Stevie is very nervous of people she doesn't know. She tends to join in at a distance. Iolo is 4 years old and is completely obsessed with chasing sticks and balls. Don't be surprised to find him sitting on your doorstep. Teg is now 18 months old and should be old enough to know better, but as yet has not grown out of puppy-hood. Daisy, a Jack Russell/Collie cross, is our newest addition - only 9 months old, she has given Teg an excuse to remain a puppy for a bit longer.

Lewis - the computer cat

We also have six cats. Most of them keep themselves away from the holiday cottages. Lewis, however, is a different matter. He believes that we converted the cottages for his benefit. He is usually to be found breaking and entering into the cottages. When he receives a welcome, you may find that he moves in for the duration of your stay. He does seem to take a hint, so if he is unwanted, he can be persuaded to go away and leave you alone.

We also have a selection of poultry, including numerous and varied chickens (and cockerels, all of whom are locked up at night so that you can't hear them when they wake up), ducks, guinea fowl and two turkeys. The birds have access to most of the farm, but we manage to keep most of them away from the cottages most of the time.
